Summary
World of Birds is a visual celebration of the planets varied and amazing birdlife, from the very common to the extremely rare, with its breathtaking images showing everything from massed flocks of Snow Geese to iridescent birds-of-paradise with unbelievable tail-plumes. Official bodies such as the IOC (International Ornithological Community) recognise more than 10,700 species of birds from 245 families from giant flightless ostriches to tiny hummingbirds utilising every habitat available, and a full range are depicted here in stunning detail. The book contains 300 images covering species from more than 220 of those 245 families in order to depict as wide a diversity as possible of birds worldwide. The photographs have been selected in order to show the varied nature of bird forms and plumages, as well as a full range of the interesting things they do, such as hunting, feeding, displaying, roosting, flocking and migrating. The text is kept to a minimum, with each caption simply stating the family name, species name and the birds geographical range. In some cases the images show the birds in the context of their landscape, while in others they depict a very rare bird or family that may never have been included in a book before
