Summary
The Onedin Line sails into the eighteen-eighties. Fortunes are being made out of the emigrants crossing the Atlantic to the New World and James Onedin is a forerunner in this very lucrative trade. However, at the beginning of series five James Onedin is in trouble. Political upheaval in South America has ruined his project to build an anchorage and the bank is trying to confiscate his fleet to pay his debts. Plus, Letty Gaunt refuses to become his wife.
