Summary
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebrates 40 years in 2018 - a significant turning point for our LGBTIQ Community in an important stage of Australian history. Sydney freelance photographer Richard Hedger has compiled 40 portraits of members of the LGBTIQ community and recorded their tales about the relevance, impact and evolving role the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras plays in their lives - past, present and future. These are the people, faces, familiar, famous, not so famous, unsung heroes, local and international sharing their experiences, thoughts, reflections and memories of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras - from what it means to them from a personal point of view, to its role as a powerful and symbolic influencer for our LGBTIQ community at large. These are people who have lived and loved, and been the life blood of the community - artists, lawyers, health care workers, retailers, sports people, activists... The featured community members are: Faustina Agolley
