Summary
Lily Michaels-Ryan may be living in modern-day Austin, but she can relate to Heloise, half of perhaps the most tragic love story ever. Lily's off her meds and she's failing Geography, so her mother probably won't let her visit her dad in Portland this summer. Lily is accustomed to misfortune, and then some. Lily doesn't know much about Abelard Mitchell other than he's on the spectrum and has a name in common with the philosopher who was Heloise's true love. And oh, yeah, he's kind of beautiful. After Lily impulsively kisses Abelard, he sends her a message -- clearly he's read The Love Letters of Abelard and Heloise too. A gorgeous guy doesn't mind she isn't "normal" and reads medieval literature? Lily might have found her happy turn, expected or not. The two exchange texts, meet up, play chess, and fall for each other. Hard. But when things with Abelard get difficult, Lily starts doing what she does best: destroy things. Lily loves Abelard, but they're so different -- was she foolish to think she'd get the happy ending Heloise didn't?
