Review
"In 1955, twelve-year-old Sophia and her family migrate from Crete to Melbourne for a better life. Sophia faces many difficulties, trying to learn unfamiliar customs and language, and make friends in a school where the children and her teacher are unsympathetic and intolerant. However, Sophia has a gift for running, which helps to break down barriers and her determination, courage and supportive family bring rewards. Sophia is a likeable and realistic character and her experiences ring-true. The history that infiltrates the story is interesting and informative, making this a great springboard for discussion. This is a well-written, satisfying story, with appeal to both avid and reluctant readers."
