Summary
Bonny Bramble can think of nothing worse than spending one whole day at Charm School, where the pupils learn to look like china dolls and are given names like Miss Rosebud and Little Miss Cute Candy. But with Mum in urgent need of a refresher course in Bookkeeping (Advanced), Dad stuck in a lay-by with a broken-down furniture van, and an empty house in a new area with no friends for Bonny to stay with, it seems there's no option but to attend. Before long she is in the bizarre world of Mrs Opalene's girls, where smiling sweetly is the order of the day and Beauty Tips are dispensed like times tables. Everyone's ambition is to be crowned with the Glistening Tiara after the afternoon's Curls and Purls Show, but Bonny is far too scruffy to compete with the other girls' glamour. They all presume she's there to help out with the lighting and sound, when in fact Bonny knows nothing at all about them. It soon becomes clear that she is going to have to learn!
