- Summary
-
- "In 2006 the Gold Coast City Council embarked on a project to record the oral histories of people associated with the city's post-war coastal development. The Gold Coast's development in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s was influential in turning the city from a sleepy seaside enclave into a pleasure and leisure capital with a distinctive personality. The development of motels, entertainment venues, beach fashion and leisure were an important part of the cultural transformation. These recordings with residents and visitors concentrate on the early years of the development of the Gold Coast strip as one of Australia's best known leisure and pleasure capitals and what life was like back then. "--website
- A collection of 36 interviews, filed in the order in which they were undertaken. Each interview contains an interview transcript or summary, and an audio CD. This project documents the memories, photos and objects of the Gold Coast's coastal strip communities, and long-term visitors. The project has collected stories about the early period of development of motels and tourism culture on the Gold Coast for the use and understanding of future generations. A total of 40 people were interviewed in 36 sessions. The project commenced in August 2006 and was completed in September 2007
