Summary
Hugh Muntz was born on 9 June 1907 at Port Douglas, Queensland, the son of a pioneering shire engineer, John Muntz and his wife. The Muntz family moved to Pimpama in 1916 to the 1,600 acre property 'Greenmeadows' in Yahwalpa Road, where they grew arrowroot, sugar cane and took up dairying. Hugh's father John was appointed as consulting engineer for the Coomera and Beenleigh Shires and Hugh followed in his footsteps. Hugh Muntz served on the Albert Shire Council for nearly 32 years (1950 - 1982) where he was chairman for 15 years (1967-1982). During his term he guided his predominantly rural shire into a model of urban planning and tourist development. In his early days Hugh was chairman of the School of Arts Committee at Pimpama and helped establish the first high school in Beenleigh. He was prominent in the Methodist Church, Beenleigh Show Society and Blue Nursing Service and played a big role in the dairying industry. Hugh took over from Russell Hinze as Chairman of the Albert Shire Council. He died in 1984.-- Gold Coast City Council Local Studies Library Newspaper Clippings - Muntz, Hugh
