Summary
Alfredo falls in love with the beautiful courtesan, Violetta, who is dying from consumption. Later, while living together in the country, Violetta is visited by Alfredo's father asking her to give him up. Persuaded, she returns to her former life and is publicly insulted by Alfredo who misunderstands her motives. He eventually learns the truth and returns to Violetta only to find her dying
