Sketch map of an area of land adjacent to Currumbin Creek owned by Samuel William Gray; in the vicinity of Jutland Place, Currumbin Waters. Samuel William Gray (1823-1889) was a N.S.W. parliamentarian and land owner who selected over 3400 acres in the Currumbin area in 1870. He was born at Armagh, Ireland, son of James Mackey and Sarah Anna Gray. He arrived in Australia with his family around 1835 and his father acquired land in Kangaroo Valley. After a variety of occupations Gray returned to Kiama to become a farmer and grazier. He leased and acquired land in other areas of NSW and Queensland. He was elected member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seats of Kiama (1859-1864), Illawarra (1874-1880) and The Richmond (Richmond/Tweed) (1882-1885).
