Summary
"Chad McCail's (born 1961 in Manchester, lives and works in Thankerton, Scotland) artistic practice encompasses illustration, painting, installation, as well as theater and performance workshops in search of new world designs. For more than 20 years, his illustrations have been drawn in the style of an instruction leaflet or graphic guide with descriptive titles such as People Take Turns to Do the Difficult Jobs, Wealth Is Shared, Money Is Destroyed, Prisoners Are Freed , and People Stop Using Things. What appears ironic at first glance turns out to be a serious investigation of alternatives to the norms that determine our everyday lives on closer inspection. McCail explores themes of sexuality and violence and focuses on psychoanalytic practices. His works in the style of children's book illustrations show an alternative reality. 'The Giants : Works 1997-2020' presents McCail's conceptual and intuitive psychoanalytic approach. With texts by the artist and by Charles Esche, Chris Gilbert, Tom Hopkin, Madeleine Kennedy, Marina Martić, Alistair Robinson and Marcus Verhagen as well as an artist talk with Giovanna C. Coppola."--publisher website
