Summary
Note the spectacular view across to the hinterlandIn 1959 Ellis Hinds, Geoff Styant Browne and Alexander McRobbie opened the first stage of an amusement park called Pleasure Island which they planned as a small scale version of Disneyland. They bought 10 acres of land at Carrara adjoining Keith Williams' Surfers Paradise Ski Gardens and opened a miniature train. Unfortunately Pleasure Island only lasted until 1962 when it closed down due to an economic downturn experienced at the time.--Information taken from; A. McRobbie, 'The Fabulous Gold Coast'
