Ray Stevens was elected to Albert Shire Council in 1988. He was elected Mayor in 1994. following the amalgamation of the Albert Shire and Gold Coast City Councils he was elected Mayor of the newly formed council in 1995 - 1997. In 2006 elected to Queensland Government as the member for Robina. He is currently the member for Mermaid Beach. In 2011 he is the Parliamentary Secretary for Racing and a member of theFinance and Administration Committee. He has been shadow minister for Public Works and Housing, Housing Affordability and Public works Information and Communication Technology, Tourism and Racing, Tourism and Fair Trading
