"Nerang Street , Southport, late 1950s."--Inscription on photographNote the memorial clock tower in the centre of the road, at the top right hand side of the photograph. The tower was placed at the intersection of Nerang Street and Scarborough Street. Maxwell Smales was the Secretary of the Committee for the Fallen. The tower was constructed by Don Horne. It was built in 1953 as a citizen's memorial for soldiers from local families who died in World War One and World Two. It was removed in 1970.Note there is no centre parking
