Summary
The work of the German photographer August Sander (1876-1964) was a decisive influence on the history of art and photography. This film is both a biography and examination of Sanders work. From his upbringing in the Westerwald region, to his early career as a studio photographer in Trier and Linz, and the Thirties in Cologne, particularly his huge, lifelong project--"People of the 20th century." The film features interviews with many who knew Sander personally, including his daughter and his grandson, who administrators Sanders photographic estate
