Summary
Keith William's involvement with the Gold Coast began in January 1958 when he launched his weekly water ski shows on the Nerang River at Carrara and he named the former dairy farm the Surfers Paradise Gardens. In 1959 he designed and built Australia's first championship standard go-kart track at the ski gardens and held the national titles on the track in 1960. In 1966-71 he designed and built the Surfers Paradise International Raceway on land opposite the ski gardens. In 1971 he moved the infrastructure from the Ski Gardens to a new site on the Spit on the Southport Broadwater and named the venue Ski Land of Australia and staged the ski shows on a huge artificial lake.
