Summary
"Barney Bolton built the wooden shed and hired putters (wooden boats fitted with a small engine), canoes and rowing boats. He possibly also ran a ferry across the Nerang River before the first Jubilee Bridge was built. At the back of the photograph is Tom Best, who built boats. Members of the Southport Training Dinghy Association would rig their boats at Barney's Boat Shed and sail unders the bridge and race from the Basin past the Pier Theatre and Grand Hotel to the Deep Hole and back again to the Basin. This was a weekly Saturday event in the summer."--Information taken from conversation with Jim Yuke, 2001
