Summary
"Bob Avery (1907-1988) moved to the Gold Coast in 1953 and purchased Hart Studios, Southport, Queensland."--Information received with photographs"The judging was the highlight of the night which officially opened the corroboree Room."--The South Coast Bulletin, 27 June, 1962"The International Air Hostess Quest ran for eight years until 1969. It was Australia's longest running international promotion. The Quest was not a beauty contest, entrants were judged in uniform and assessed solely on their ability as flight attendants. Original sponsor of the Quest was Chevron Queensland Ltd and later Ansett-ANA became a co-sponsor. The event attracted entrants from 109 world airlines ranging from PanAm to the Soviet airline Aeroflot. Gold Coast City Council never made any financial contrubution to the running of the event. This was because Mayor Bruce Small felt that the publicity gained by the quest overshadowed his own 'bikini girl' promotions. The 1969 Quest attracted a record 50 entrants and an application was made to the Council for financial assistance of $2000. When the motion went to Council it was defeated on the first and casting vote of Mayor Bruce Small thus the Quest lapsed and was taken up by a resort in Uruguay."--Alexander McRobbie, 20th Century Gold Coast People, page 264
