Summary
Cable Park is where the trees are growing near the white steps leading the water. MacIntosh Island is to the rightCable Park commemorates the siting of the Cable Hut for the Trans-Pacific Telegraph. The Cable Station in Bauer Street Southport, was erected in 1902 and was the terminus of the cable that ran across the Pacific from Vancouver. The cable finally closed in 1962 and the buildings in Bauer Street were sold. The hut at Cable Park was originally a wooden structure sited where the cable arrived on Australian soil at Narrowneck, Main Beach. From Main Beach a landline crossed the Nerang River to Southport. The hut would have been manned to keep watch over incoming telecommunications before being received at Southport
