Summary
England, 1943. When Madeline is sent a mysterious message telling her that she will be posted at Trent Park mansion, she can't help but wonder how she will be helping the war effort from a stately home. No sooner than she arrives, she signs the Official Secrets Act. Nazi generals are staying at the house. It is bugged with listening devices in every room, and it is up to Madeline to gain the Nazi's trust and coax them into giving up information. When Max Bamberger, a Jewish refugee, arrives with the same mission, Madeline finds herself trapped in a dangerous game of chess. Madeline had met Max in Germany before the war, her heart was his from the first moment they locked eyes, but they had been painstakingly separated when the Nazi's overran German cities.
