"Tiong Bahru follows three people over the course of one afternoon as they reach a crucial decision in their lives. Shot in June 2010 in Singapore and featuring a volunteer cast of residents of the heritage estate of Tiong Bahru and the traders and visitors of its famous hawker centre, 'Tiong Bahru' is the tenth in the acclaimed Civic Life by Christine Molley and Joe Lawlor, a series of participatory film projects shot on 35mm widescreen exploring cinematically the relationship between people and the environments in which they live and work. Tiong Bahru is part of Civic Life : Singapore, a major arts project bringing together artists, communities and audiences to explore, ideas of community, place and belonging. Also featured on the DVD: the quirky, beautiful, surprising and often moving shortlisted films of 'Where the heart is', the project's 90 second film competition exploring the relationship people have to the places that matter to them."--Container
