Summary
The main hotel block was completed on December 6 1956 and the hotel became the tallest building on the Gold Coast. The first licensee was Edward Bewkey. The hotel contained two public bars, a private bar and 100 accommodation units. While Lennon's Broadbeach Hotel was a luxury hotel for its day, it was not a financial success. The hotel was taken over by Federal Hotels Ltd in 1961. Coloured panels of masonite were installed to attract younger holiday makers. This was unsuccessful and Queensland Breweries purchased the hotel. In 1965 Chevron Queensland leased the hotel from Queensland Breweries and operated the hotel until it became the Broadbeach International. The hotel was demolished in 1987 to make way for a 31 storey international hotel tower block, a tavern, a mall and shopping complex. This was linked to Jupiters Casino by a monorail which continues to operate.--Information take from A.
