Construction of the Little Nerang Dam, Springbrook, Queensland
Summary
The Little Nerang Dam, located on the Little Nerang Creek directly upstream from the Hinze Dam, was completed in 1962. The Little Nerang Creek Gravity Scheme supplied the water requirements of the Gold Coast area until the completion of the Hinze Dam in 1976. It is now primarily used as a secondary source of water supply. Little Nerang Dam is a mass concrete dam with gates constructed across Little Nerang Creek. The water flows from the dam by gravity pipeline to the Mudgeeraba Water Treatment Plant. The Little Nerang Dam has a storage capacity of 9,280 million litres and a catchment area of approximately 35 square kilometres, including Springbrook Plateau. The lake surface is 49 hectares.
