Summary
The original hotel was erected by Miles A. McDonald in 1913 and was praised as the most palatial hotel between Newcastle and Brisbane. It was destroyed by fire on 13 June 1931 and rebuilt. The new Hotel Grande, which opened early 1933 would for many years stand as the acme of hotel accommodation in Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. It was designed by M.V.E. Woodroofe of Sydney in a contemporary Spanish mission style and was 'modern in every respect'. (Information taken from: R. Longhurst, From Tallebudgera to the Tweed, 1996)
