Summary
Playback theater is an original form of improvisational theater in which audience or group members tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot. Used in theaters, workshops, and a wide range of educational and organizational settings, it draws people together and allows fresh perspectives on common themes, interests, or concerns to emerge. This recording captures a performance from June, 2005 for the managers and administrative staff of Crystal Run Village, an organization serving people with developmental disabilities in upstate New York. The actors illuminated an issue chosen by the audience, in the resulting piece called "The Juggling Act: Supporting the people we serve, our staff, and ourselves." It serves as a case study and training session in how Playback Theatre allows all voices to be heard, makes different perspectives clearly visible, and stimulates dialog - to assist groups of people in achieving their chosen goals
