Lucy has an old biscuit barrel from her grandma that she hides under her bed. In it, she puts pictures she has carefully cut out from her favourite comics and magazines. At night, when everyone else is asleep, these characters come to life and leap out of the barrel and on to her bed: a motley crew of princesses, pirates, dragons and knights, all annoyed they don't know the endings to their stories! It's up to Lucy to help resolve their squabbles
