Summary
A portrait of Melbourne high society just before World War I. It furthers the story of the Anglo-Australian Langton family and is the sequel to A Difficult Young Man. For the first 23 years of her marriage to the innocently immoral musician "Wolfie", Diana accepts her husband's egotism. Then two events bring her life to a point of decision - the discovery of his mistress, and the return of the agreeable dilettante Russell Lockwood
