Summary
Note the arrowroot growing in the foreground and the drying tables near the storage shed. Fred Walker began milling arrowroot in the Upper Coomera district in 1912. At this time his mill was considered to be one of the most up-to-date in the district. The mill was converted to electricity in 1932. It closed down in 1943 when it became a cattle stud. Today the mill has been restored and is open to the public. Arrowroot was planted in the spring and harvested in the winter. The crushing season lasted three to four months.
