Summary
The Cenotaph was previously situated at the intersection of McLean and Griffiths Street, Coolangatta, before being moved to its present location during the 1930s. It was removed because it was considered a traffic hazard. The face of the monument bears the following inscription: "Erected by the residents in honour of those who served their King and country during the Great War 1914-1918." The other three sides of the monument list names of the men who lost their lives during the Great War. The names are: - W.D. Gardiner, A.C. Gibson, H.W. Gibson, R. Kirkwood, E. Lowe, B. Penny, J.S. Mitchell, M. McGreavy, S. Osborn, Sgt I. Ricketts, H. Root, D. Walker, F. Caldwell, E. de Sterke, H. Dixon (k), L Sgt. J. Gordon, E. Georgett (k), Sgt R. Simpson, A. Stephenson.
