"Invitations have been sent to 33 surviving former Mayors and Alderman of the Gold Coast, to attend next Friday's special 25th Anniversary Meeting of the Council. It will be 25 years almost to the day that the first meeting of the Council in its present form was held in Southport. On June8, 1949, it was the first meeing of the Council of the Town of South Coast. It became the Town of Gold Coast nine years later, in October 1958, and the City of Gold Coast was established on May 16, 1959...The Council will hold a special formal meeting next Friday, at the R.S.L.
